Class of 2016 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Congratulations to our Class of 2016 Valedictorian Isabelle Hodge and our Salutatorian Son Do.

isabelle-hodge-04Isabelle Hodge is a filmmaker, screenwriter, scientist, actress, and academic critic of all subject matters. Her skill sets are advanced, only matched by the warm and positive attitude she applies to all of her work. Isabelle is by far one of the most intrinsically motivated students we have seen. She has performed in musicals in and outside of school, her films have won awards at the Austin Youth Film Festival, Austin Film Festival and SXSW, she was an active member of our Community Leader Program, served as the President of the National Honor Society and held a research internship in a genetics lab at UC Berkeley (to list just a few of her numerous accomplishments). Isabelle’s teachers appreciated her work ethic, maturity and sophisticated level of engagement in class. She chose a very challenging academic path with high level courses in Physics, History, Film and English that she elegantly balanced with her extracurricular  activities.  She was a member first IB Diploma Programme cohort and went on to earn the IB Diploma in the spring of 2016.  Isabelle stood out to her peers as a role model for taking advantage of every opportunity that came her way as well as creating ones that she saw needed to exist.  Isabelle went on to attend Smith College in Northhampton, Massachusetts where she is continuing to explore her passions in science, film, and entrepreneurship.  She is also active in house leadership and a member of Smith’s elite Chamber Singer’s choir.

son-kim-do-4Son Do is the perfect example of what we hope for from our students. He is curious, engaged and willing to push himself beyond his comfort level both academically and socially. Son is well known within our community for his work ethic, sense of humor and insightful participation. Son’s academic commitment had him pursue an extremely challenging International Baccalaureate IB Diploma course load with High Level IB courses in Physics, Math, History and Film.  He also engaged in courses with Austin Community college’s Dual Enrollment program in Chemistry, Macroeconomics and United States Government. Son was a member of our first IB Diploma Programme cohort and went on to earn the IB Diploma in the spring of 2016. Son was well regarded amongst our faculty for his kindness, sense of humor and resiliency. They appreciated the considerable effort he placed on his work and were impressed with his curious and creative mind. Son was also extremely active in our athletics program where he played flag football and soccer. He consistently brought the same drive, commitment and sense of humor to the playing field. All of Son’s hard work earned him a spot at UT Austin where he is currently majoring in Chemical Engineering.  We are happy to have Son so close to us as he visits campus often.
