Student Spotlights – January 2018

Congratulations to our Headwaters High Schoolers who submitted work to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Our Visual Arts Guide John Mulvany and Photography Guide Michelle Gardella helped students submit their work to this prestigious competition. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a group dedicated to “identify[ing] students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.” The Awards recognize talent, but also help students in exhibition, publication, and scholarship opportunities. Work is submitted to our local affiliate, Travis County, and has possibility to be recognized on a national scale.

Congratulations to our winners and recognized artists:

  • 11th grader Rodrige Mumbili received the Gold Key award and is a finalist for the American Visions Award for his work, “I Matter.”
  • 11th grader Gage Wenderski won two Gold Key awards in two categories, Painting and Drawing/ Illustration for his original work.
  • 11th grader Caitlin Rodriguez won a Silver Key award and and Honorable Mention for two of her designs.
  • 10th grader Diefi Jiang for her Honorable Mention for her work, “Host Grandmother with Plants.”

The 2018 Travis County Regional Scholastic Art Awards Reception and Ceremony was held on January 28, 2018 in the Helm Fine Arts Center at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. We will know about the National Award winner for Gold Key work in mid March after further review in New York City.

Congratulations again to our students!
