Dear Headwaters Community,

Last Friday, January 6, the City of Austin elevated Austin/Travis County to Medium Risk for the first time in five months due to a steady rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

At this level and on the recommendation of Austin Public Health, Headwaters students and faculty in Primary classrooms and above are recommended to mask indoors when social distancing is not possible.

We will continue to focus on our other important mitigation measures–air filtration, outdoor classrooms and activities, and hand washing. While we have had a few recent reports of COVID, the virus has not spread widely across our three campuses. You can see our COVID-19 dashboard at this link. As always, please stay home if you are not feeling well.

Finally, if you are not up-to-date on your COVID-19 vaccines or boosters, now is a great time to take care of that in the new year.

Thank you for helping keep our community well,

Headwaters School

Resources

Vaccine Providers

Free COVID-19 tests

  • Free mail-order rapid antigen test kits are available once again through covid.gov/tests. Households are eligible for another round of four tests for a limited time.
  • At-home COVID-19 test kits are available at APH Neighborhood Centers while supplies last. The U.S. Department of Health and Humans Services also lists community-based testing sites online.
  • All campuses have a supply of rapid tests for student use. See your Campus Manager.

Free Masks

  • Use the CDC’s mask-locator tool to find pharmacies near you that provide free masks (N-95 respirators). It does not show current inventories, so check with the location for availability.
  • All campuses have masks on hand for any person while they are at school.
