January/February Staff Spotlight: Mary Irreno

Headwaters School
Meet Mary Irreno, our Primary Bluebirds Assistant Guide! Mary started with us in the 2022-2023 school year and we are so fortunate to have her on our team!
Mary is from the beautiful city of Barranquilla, Colombia on the Magdalena River, close to the Caribbean Sea. Later, she moved to Northern Virginia where she found a home as a Montessori Primary Assistant. It was here, she fell in love with the Montessori philosophy and pedagogy.

After recently moving to Austin with her fiancé, Mary found Headwaters School as the perfect fit to continue in Montessori. With her background in Montessori and love of children, the Primary Bluebirds are able to experience Mary’s skilled lesson delivery and loving approach.

In addition to teaching, Mary is quite busy outside of school! She and her fiancé are loving exploring Austin and seeing what the city has to offer. She enjoys exercising, sports, poetry, and reading. She shared, “Lately I have been reading a lot of personal growth books. One of my favorite authors is Ryan Holiday.” On top of that, she and her fiancé own a small cookie business together, something she says continues to keep her busy and “in a happy place” since they started it during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’re so happy to have you, Mary!

What Brought Mary to Headwaters:
“Something that drew me to be part of Headwaters was the welcoming feeling you get from everyone. Also, the great opportunities that are within the Headwaters community to grow as a professional. And the learning experiences in everyday life.“

Fun Facts about Mary:
  • Besides being an educator, I am a personal trainer and nutrition coach.
  • I am currently working on writing a children's book with my best friend.
  • I own a cookie company with my fiancé.
