Ash Wednesday

Many Christians abstain from meat on this day. Provide food accommodation as requested. People may leave to get ashes. Headwaters will not hold any required after-school events on this date. Ash Wednesday is a holy day of prayer and fasting in many Western Christian denominations. It is preceded by Shrove Tuesday and marks the first day of Lent, the six weeks of penitence before Easter.
History: The first day of Lent, the period of 40 days before Easter in which many Christians sacrifice ordinary pleasures.
